This Sunday we welcome the return of the Shaun Henderson band. I have been told that the first half will feature violinist Gordon Dyke with our own Mr Robinson on trumpet leading the charge on the second set. Quirky arrangements and Shaun’s wife Tanya will feature as vocalist. Coming soon is the 6th Darlington jazz festival with some very special guests in some very special venues.

The finale of this Season will take place on Monday 4th July in The Central Hall, Dolphin Centre where we welcome the fantastic National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). The world famous National Youth Jazz Orchestra has been showcasing the country’s most talented young jazz musicians for over 50 years. From a swinging rhythm section to incredibly talented soloists, this is a great opportunity to see the band in the North East. Many of the UK’s most prolific jazz musicians have performed with NYJO, often becoming established stars whilst playing with the band. Alumni include Guy Barker, Dennis Rollins and Amy Winehouse to name just a few. The band tours regularly at venues in the UK, as well as in Europe, US, Australia and New Zealand. Durham County Youth Big Band will play in support. Doors are 6:45 with music from about 7pm

Tonight Andy brings a quartet to The Quakerhouse for what could be his last small group performance in the area – Andy has sold his house and intending moving south during the summer. Tonight’s gig will include guests Alex Baker and Will Howard. both former pupils from Teesdale School where Andy worked as a woodwind teacher until his retirement a few years ago. Both these ex pupils were encourage to develop their skills with Durham County Youth Big Band and can be regularly heard with Alumni Big Band and at the Darlington Jazz Festival.
Live music is about 6pm and expect some exciting bebop saxophone playing in the upstairs room at Quakerhouse.
